Breck's Mill

101 Stone Block Row, Rockland, DE 19802

Description: GREENVILLE. Historic Brecks Mill, built in the early 1800s as a cotton mill on the Brandywine River, is a favorite subject of many paintings; it is also the quaint home for two unique galleries. The André Harvey Breck's Mill Studio and Gallery (302-656-7955; www.andreharvey.com) on the top floor houses bronze, life-like statues; his popular works are included in museums and private collections and displayed in public places in and around Wilmington. Here they are displayed in an open gallery. Somerville Manning Gallery (302-652-0271; www.somervillemanning.com), on the second floor, represents and exhibits 20th- and 21st-century fine art of the Brandywine School of painting, regional artists and Wyeth contemporaries. The bright gallery spaces with windows provides a picturesque view of the rushing river outside. The historic beauty of the Delaware Valley is on view along with the art. The gallery participates in the monthly Art Loop on first Fridays of the month for evening receptions with the artists. The US Post Office for Rockland is on the lower level. Stroll around the mill property to get great views of the falls; the view is "priceless."
